One of Rhode Island’s best sports bars, Snookers was established in 1989 by Stephen & Regina Goulding in the Jewelry District of Providence, RI.  Since its humble beginning, the well-known billiards, sports bar & grill has since relocated to Ashburton Street conveniently located near Downtown Providence. The original Snookers comprised of a pool hall with 20 pool tables, a game room and a snack bar that served concession-type snacks and soft drinks.  After 5 years of success and the acquirement of a liquor license, Snookers transformed the game room into “The Green Room.”  This was a popular Rhode Island hot spot which hosted many up-and-coming live bands and DJs, in addition to well-known acts.  It became the go-to bar for city entertainment for many years. In 2009, Snookers closed its doors on Clifford Street and moved to its present home at 53 Ashburton Street, about a mile and a half away.  The transformation of the building from the “Damiano Brothers Welding Company” to what we recognize as Snookers today, was a dramatic transformation.  If you have never had the opportunity to visit Snookers; the interior is an eclectic mix of art, sports, signage, movie memorabilia, and industrial artifacts from its previous life.  With each milestone in Snookers’ history, the Goulding family displays a memento for their loyal patrons to view.  Visit our 360° virtual tour on our gallery page to take a look inside Snookers…see if you can spot your favorite keepsake! Today, Snookers is unrivaled in the sports bar, billiards, and food scene of Providence.  The restaurant now operates with 15 professional quality pool tables and is the official home of the New England Pool and Billiards Hall of Fame; making it the headquarters for New England’s billiard enthusiasts.  In addition to pool, Snookers features three full bars, a spacious dining room, seasonal beer garden, outdoor patio and bar, and 60 HD TVs that lend themselves to a fun-filled atmosphere for people of all ages to enjoy.
